AMERICAN
FORK (June 8, 2004)—On September 13, 2003, Utah pianist
David Glen Hatch was working on the computer in his North Orem
studio when he received a phone call he will never forget. On
the other end of the phone line was Vladimir Sirenko, the conductor
of the world renowned National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.
Sirenko had learned that Hatch was scheduled to tour Ukraine in
July 2004, and immediately called to invite his American comrade
to perform on July 11 with the 118-piece orchestra of Ukraine’s
best musicians at the Mariinsky Palace, a former residence of
a daughter of Peter the Great.
Hatch
will be the only American performer at this music festival held
in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the birth of Russian born
pianist, Vladimir Horowitz, who is revered by many as the greatest
pianist of the twentieth century. Upon receiving this monumental
invitation, Hatch said, “I was surprised and absolutely
overwhelmed to think that Vladimir Sirenko went out of his way
to invite me to perform on such a prestigious program.”
Such
a prestigious invitation should come as no surprise to this three-time
Grammy nominated pianist. Hatch is no stranger to recognition
for his work. Not only has he received Grammy nominations for
Best Classical Album, Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra
and Best Patriotic Album, but also he was awarded the “Best
Album – Instrumentalist Award” from the LDS Booksellers
Association and the “Bronze Trumpet Award” from Covenant
Communications for selling over 100,000 copies of his albums.
Hatch
is scheduled to tour Ukraine from July 9 to July 25. Along with
his performances at a variety of music halls throughout Ukraine,
Hatch has been invited to present Master Classes at the Music
Conservatories in Kiev, Lviv, Donetsk, and Simferopol where he
will work with conservatory students in front of a live audience.
Additionally, he has been asked to provide two musical LDS firesides
for the LDS missions and stakes in Kiev and Donetsk. David Glen
Hatch’s newest album, A Master’s Touch, produced by
Covenant Communications, Inc., can be purchased at Seagull Book
and everywhere LDS music is sold.
