Though Latter-day Saints do not glory in the thought of violence, the “war against evil” is a metaphor that has great meaning for us in its spiritual sense—a fighting army parallels the loyalty and zeal of followers of Jesus Christ. War is certainly a growing concern in our time. Many hymns of exhortation provide a militant connotation that establishes an atmosphere of conquering determination in worshippers. Together, these provided the motivation behind the stirring and vigorous anthems contained in this album. The three-movement opening selection is my first genuine attempt at writing an original musical composition. It has been a rewarding experience to create music that helps the listener envision possible happenings during the stripling warrior saga of Book of Mormon times. From a musical perspective, here is that story.
